One got the impression that this location was severely mismanaged. (If you're a customer and are wondering why IKEA workers don't know what they're talking about, this is why.) Oh, I also did not receive ANY training except walking around the store for a bit, and I was constantly pulled onto registers AGAIN, which is another position entirely. I wasted my time for months trying to go back into the position that I was best at, to no avail, because they did not see the use in Smaland or Greeters - they simply wanted more people to sell things. In late 2017 there was a complete restructuring in the company which changed my position to sales, which I did not want nor did I ask for. However, the kids were mostly a delight to work with which made up for the awful parents. There are rules you must enforce and many people do not want to follow them, so you're wasting a lot of your time. I was also pulled over to the cash registers to help when things were overloaded, which I felt frustrated by as it was nowhere in my job description.Ĭustomers at Smaland ranged from very kind to the absolute worst people, so pretty standard for retail.
(You need to be CPR certfied to work in Smaland.) Once I got the certification, I was in Smaland most of the time, but still needed to be a Greeter often. I started out with Smaland, but I was forced to be a Greeter for several months, because they require you to use their company for CPR certification and the appointment was months away. Pretty good but soon lost its touch I worked at IKEA from 2016-2018.
